Actually, I made it myself. It took me about a year to figure it out and implement it. I machined the parts on my jewelers lathe.

My favourite holiday is the Gregorian new year (January 1st). The problem with alot of those who get all bent out of shape over the phrase "Happy Holidays", is that they don't really realise it's not any attack on Christianity-- Quite the opposite, in fact! Ignoring everything that's neither a real holiday or Christian holy day, the period between Thanksgiving (and even before, I think- Going back to Halloween, in fact!) and the Feast of the Epiphany (Jan. 6) is an almost non-stop plethora of secular holidays and important holy days, feasts, festivals and masses amongst the various Christian sects. So much so, it has always been considered the "holiday season", and some sort of general holiday blessing or greeting has been in use for the season in western European cultures for centuries.

In other words, those offended by the seeming lack of Christianity in the phrases "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings" really don't know their Christianity well, and are themselves lacking in their faith for not knowing these important and once important days that filled the calendar for over 2 months...especially amongst Catholics!

Not to be too pedantic, but until about 500 years ago, the Earth wasn't regarded as a planet- That is, it didn't transit the plane of the sky with the other "planets"-- The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. (This is why I get pissed at the "Pluto is not a planet, because we don't want any more planets" behaviour of the last few years in the astronomical community- They say we should stick to the "classical" planets, except "classical" meant the Earth didn't count, but the Sun and Moon did!)

That said, naming conventions for exosolar planets are such out of necessity, but do note that stars in a multistellar system are capitalised while planets are given lowercase designations-- Makes it interesting, should there be an Alpha Centauri B b (which likely does exist).

The word "skill" was my own translation. Most translate the meaning as Day of Talent, but génie is translated variously as genius or engineering, and seeing how it is commonly used in French, it seemed to me that "skill" is closer than "talent" to the intended meaning, being something that is gained through education and practice at a profession, rather than something innate. "Craft" was another term that occurred to me.

Likewise, travail is usually translated as "labour", but this has a French cognate that could have been used. The English word "travail" means "burdensome work" or "toil", but I think that here it has a more positive connotation, as in a celebration of hard work, so simply "work" seemed to work.

Virtu and l'Opinion are obvious, although some translate the latter as "choice". Récompenses is translated as "awards", as I wrote it, but perhaps "rewards" would be better.

All these are typically called fêtes, which could be translated as "feast", "festival" or simply "day", similar to feast days of saints. However, sometimes they are called jours or "days" in French.

I cannot find an original source and I do not speak French, which makes it difficult to determine the precise intent.

So today is 0218.SC.02 in the French Calendar in which SC means Sancolotides (2010.09.18-Sa) (It's still the 17th as of post in my area) so it's the day of skill (jour de Génie) in which we are 5 days away from the new French Republican year! Whoo hoo! :D =^_^= Must get some party hats and noisemakers cuz it'll be a blast!
